| Description |
CONTRA-TIEMPO is a non-profit, Los Angeles based, activist dance company, founded and directed by Ana Maria Alvarez. CONTRA-TIEMPO is dedicated to transforming the world through dance. Our unique Urban Latin Dance Theater brings to life voices that are not traditionally heard on the concert stage. We build community, facilitate dialogue and move youth to imagine what is possible in the world. The past year and a half has been a busy year for the company, touring to AZ, GA, NC, WA, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. We are finally able to share our work in our home town of LOS ANGELES! We will be performing audience favorites like "Against the Time" and "I Dream America", as well as debuting new work. Last year St. Joseph Ballet in Orange County, commissioned the company to create "Brackish Water" which has never been performed in Los Angeles. We will also be debuting several new sections of the company's newest work "Pa' comen(zar)".
