EXPLORE unique NYC food shops...TASTE the exotic and nostalgic...LEARN about ethnic flavors and cultures

For generations, the Lower East Side has been home to the many immigrants coming to the US for a better life; and on The Melting Pot tour, you will get a glimpse into this diverse neighborhood. 

Our walk takes us through the Hispanic and Jewish Lower East Side, Chinatown, and Little Italy.  Food brings people together, instilling a sense of security and happiness.  On this tour, you will learn the importance of food in each community, while identifying unique food items and their preparations. 

This is a great introduction to a lively, fascinating area.
 
Tour itineraries vary by day.  Below are the stores we visit and foods* we try:

Bakery--Gourmet muffin D ,N,G        (Closed on Sunday)
Farmstead Cheesemonger--cheese D    (Closed on Sunday)                 
Kosher Bread Bakery--bialys G        (Closed on Saturday)                         
Kosher Pickle Shop--pickles          (Closed on Saturday)                 
Asian Bakery--Chinese pastry N, P, G
Italian Gourmet shop--Italian cheese D 
Italian Dairy--fresh mozzarella D and prosciutto ricotta balls D, P, G
Italian Pastry shop--mini pastry D, G

On Saturdays and Sundays, above "closed" shops are replaced with the following:
                                 
Old Fashioned Candy Store--Halvah N
Chinese Dumpling shop--Fried Dumpling P, G

Samples and stores are subject to change.

*For those with dietary restrictions and allergiesD=Dairy, N=Nuts, P=Pork, B=Beef, G=Gluten

Notes
Itineraries vary on weekends. 

Advance reservations are required.  This is a walking tour. 

Pre-determined food samples are included in the fee and eaten "on the go".

Public restrooms are not always available.

All tours are held rain or shine.  However, they may be cancelled for severe weather (blizzard, hurricane, etc.) or events beyond The Enthusiastic Gourmet's control (transportation strike, blackout, etc.).  If the Enthusiastic Gourmet cancels a tour, we will refund your full amount.
