Octetra: An Evening of Works by Asterial Dance
New York-based dance company, Asterial Dance, presents OCTETRA, an evening of eight original works and Maryland premieres.  This performance is a dynamic movement experience, presenting a collage of dance works that capture the full range of the company's artistry. The eight works range from movement-based to theatrical, light to dark, dramatic to comedic and everything in between.  There will be guest performances by Dance with Me School of Dance and Lexis and Cassie Firestone of the MD School of Ballet and Modern Dance. Its an event you don't want to miss!

Asterial Dance is a professional contemporary dance company under the artistic direction of Megan Lynn. The company strives to create accessible and innovative work that bridges the gap between the audience and performers. Asterial Dance has presented work at the Brooklyn Music School Playhouse, Alvin Ailey Studios, Bridge for Dance, Dixon Place, Jennifer Muller/The Works Studio, Tree of Life Studios, White Wave John Ryan Theater, Ailey Citigroup Theater and Philadelphia Fringe Festival.

A quick look at what Asterial Dance will be presenting...

1. Gripped: A quirky, dark piece that looks at the effects of OCD, particularly the dichotomy of being in complete control while being completely out of control.

2. Right...like...um...er... If you don't mind me saying: A light and unintentionally silly piece about hesitating in both action and conversation, especially in awkward intimate moments.

3. This Ride We're On: A lyrical piece dedicated to two friends struggling with an overseas long distance relationship.

4. Buckle Up Please!: A comedy involving vehicular scenarios... think parallel parking, jump starting cars, and road rage.

5. A Series of Immaterial Duets: Five dances for two that aren't really about anything. Except movement!

6. Seeds of Faith: An abstract and beautiful piece set to the score of John Williams that explores the stages of finding the courage to step out and pursue a dream.

7. Like Shifting Shadows: A thrilling and inspiring piece that relies on the use of lamps both as a prop and a source of light for the dancers.

8. To This Well: A moving and inspiring piece about spiritual drought, recovery, and revival. Think desert, mirages, and lots of water! Yes real water...
