Roger Letson Quintet

After many years of directing vocal jazz ensembles and presenting workshops for vocal jazz soloists in the United States and Europe, Alameda resident, Roger Letson, has embarked on a new musical journey as a solo vocalist. His debut CD, "You Stole My Heart", will be featured in this concert with a special group of musical friends. Joining Letson in the ensemble are: Walter Bankovitch Keyboards (Berkeley), Clinton Day Bass (Alameda), Tim Bulkley Drums (New York City), and Christian Roy Saxophones (Grenoble, France).

The communication among the players complements the intriguing melodic lines and subtle harmonies of the unique repertoire of originals and jazz standards. The improvisation passages of each member meld together and the listener is treated to a journey of intelligent music making reaching deep into the soul of the musical text. Space and simplicity are the by-words with this ensemble, and the musical influence of Chet Baker is brought to mind.
