Bill deBlasio faces incredible challenges as he takes over as New York's new mayor in 2014. The most daunting may be: can he sing? We're offering you a chance to be the first to find out. The mayor will continue a 91-year-old New York City tradition Saturday, March 22 when he responds to reporters' good-natured barbs at the annual Inner Circle dinner. It's a charity event that brings out the musical/comedy best of the person holding the second toughest job in America. Past mayors have enlisted the help of Broadway professionals and television stars with some memorable performances of their own. Imagine Mike Bloomberg floating through air with the cast of Spiderman or Rudy Giuiani in drag with Julie Andrews and the cast of Victor/Victoria. Troupers from Mamma Mia, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid and Hair have graced the Inner Circle stage in recent years. So have Caroline Kennedy, Eli Manning as Snooki and The Situation! The night kicks off with a lavish cocktail hour, offering a chance to mingle with the city's media and political elite. That's followed by a comedy review written and performed by the city's press corps while a three course dinner is served. And then the mayor takes the stage. The event, held at the New York Hilton on Sixth Ave. at 53rd St., raises funds for local charities. For ticket information, check out innercircleshow.org on the web.
