Twelfth Night Festivities at St. John's-Clayton
Twelfth Night Festivities at St. John's-Clayton 5555 Clayton Road Sunday, January 5, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Join us at St. John's - Clayton for the festivities of Twelfth Night, the last of the "12 Days of Christmas" and a time of great merry-making. This year we will celebrate with our co-vicar, the Rev. Amanda May, the 20th anniversary of her ordination as a priest. Our Twelfth Night begins with a 6:00 pm Evensong with Bishop Marc Andrus officiating. Following at about 7:00 pm is a sumptuous reception in the Parish Hall - along with a silent auction and entertainment by the popular Grant Street Players. Tickets are $25 per person, with proceeds going to the work of the Church.
Twelfth Night celebrations in England are steeped in tradition - and a time for parties at the end of the Christmas season. A character in Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" cautions an overly serious companion to enjoy the season's last evening of merriment, saying "Out o' tune, sir... Dost thou think because thou are virtuous, there shall be no more cakes and ale?"
Join us for the festivities.
