MOTHER OF GEORGE, followed by a community discussion (Matatu Film Series)
Adenike and Ayodele, a Nigerian couple living in Brooklyn, are having trouble conceiving a child - a problem that defies cultural expectations and leads Adenike to make a shocking decision that could either save or destroy her family.
Acclaimed director Andrew Dosumnu (Restless City) captures the nuances of this unique and fascinating culture by creating a beautiful, vibrant, and moving portrait of a couple whose joys and struggles are at once intimate and universal.
In East African nations, "matatus" are privately owned minibuses functioning as easily accessible shared taxis. Often decorated with popular icons and sounds, matatus offer not only a means of travel, but access to what is new and current in the world. We invite you to come aboard the virtual matatu through the Matatu Film Series (Tuesdays at The New Parkway Theater), as we present global stories of humility, pride, resistance, and faith. We hope you'll enjoy the ride.
The Matatu Film Series is a project of the Broaklyn Film and Theater Company.
