Lecture: Is it Time for a New, New Deal?

MOHAI
Seattle, WA

With every pundit you read, the comparisons are made: we are in the grips of the worst economic downturn since the 1930s. Now, a new U.S. President enters office with the challenge of improving the U.S. economy. Can the past teach the future a lesson? Are we really facing another Great Depression?

Join WPA historian Roger van Oosten for a provocative, informative and engaging talk on the similarities, and differences, between the 1930s and 2008. Learn how FDR and his team dealt with economic calamity, discover some surprising facts about what the New Deal accomplished in Seattle, and understand the steps President-elect Obama might take to right the economy.

Roger van Oosten is a local WPA historian who frequently lectures and gives tours about the impacts, successes and missed opportunities of the New Deal era.
