New York Musical Improv Festival I.P.O (Initial Public Offering)
Fancy Man consists of seven musical improvisers who also happen to be gay males. We're a celebration of brotherhood, acceptance, fun, improv and gay sensibility. Award Shows, Celebrities, Going Blue. We do it all, with finesse.
Yo Gloria is a rap improv team from Steel City Improv Theater in Pittsburgh, PA. This energetic new comedy show combines the structure of long-from musical improv with freestyle rapping. Based on the suggestion of the name of a mixtape, six improvisers create a montage of scenes representing individual tracks on the mixtape. Yo Gloria does all their own beatboxing.
"Big D and the Closers" takes your suggestion and turns it into a fully improvised musical! This dynamic ensemble has taken both their love of New York musical theater and Chicago style long-form improvisation and married them into spectacle that is not to be missed.
Our show consists of a simple 'Musical Harold', the format we used in the Musical Longform Class at the Second City Training Centre. We have a nonsense opener, where we experiment with different characters and genres we might play with during the set. The first three scenes are the longest, deepest, meatiest scenes followed by a vibrant 'Group Game' with lots of movement. Then the second round of scenes either take the game or a character from one of the first three scenes and expand the world and stories. Another group game follows and the ending explodes into either a madrigal, dance number or sometimes both!:)
