Hollywood Holiday with Barbara Rosene and Gregory Moore
"HOLLYWOOD HOLIDAY!
ONE NIGHT ONLY!!

Popular New York vocalists BARBARA ROSENE and GREGORY MOORE get Christmas week rolling with the return of their acclaimed show, HOLLYWOOD HOLIDAY, in which they mine the Christmas canon of classic television and cinema, performing both the standards and the not-so-standards from such classics as White Christmas, Holiday Inn, It's a Wonderful Life, Meet Me In St. Louis and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.  This will be the third revival of this fast-paced and unapologetically sentimental "shake of the memory snowglobe".  First performed in 2006 at the late, great Danny's Skylight Room, Hollywood Holiday (written by Gregory and Barbara, who are both admitted "movie history wonks") delves into the Hollywood Christmas classics and sheds light on a few under-remembered gems.  Everyone knows "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"but how many know the name of the duet sung by Judy Garland's parents in Meet Me in St. Louis?  (Answer:  "You and I" by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown).  And though it's certainly not considered a "musical," the soundtrack of It's a Wonderful Life actually contains many great songs.  Ever wondered what the name of that peppy Italian song was that the "pleasant peasants" are singing in Martini's Bar, as the dejected George Bailey sits at the bar?  It's called "Vieni, Vieni" (actually a #1 hit for Rudy Vallee in 1937!) and it's one of the many tunes featured in Hollywood Holiday.  The musical director of the show will be the ever-in-demand New York jazz pianist, JESSE GELBER.
New York audiences know Gregory Moore from his appearances with his own orchestra, GREGORY MOORE and his COSMOPOLITAN ORCHESTRA, as well as for his regular appearances with Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra, where he is the lead singer of the "Dreamland Follies" at the bi-annual Governors Island Jazz Age Lawn Party (and elsewhere).  Moore shifted gears, musically, fully devoting his energies to the music of the 1930's after many years of singing opera (The Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, LA Opera).  He's written and performed several one-man "tribute" shows (about Russ Columbo, Arthur Tracy, Noël Coward and others).  He was the first recipient of the prestigious "Dorothy Loudon Award" at the 2008 Mabel Mercer Foundation Cabaret Convention at Rose Hall, Lincoln Center.

Will Friedwald, Wall Street Journal critic and author of Jazz Singing has written: "No one evokes more vividly the music of the great singers of the 1920s than BARBARA ROSENE."  Barbara is a much in-demand vocalist with big bands across America (as well as in Europe) and is currently the touring soloist with THE HARRY JAMES ORCHESTRAfollowing in the very large footsteps of such other James singers as Rosemary Clooney, Helen Forrest, Dick Haymesand a fellow named Sinatra.  She has recorded eight solo CD's, including her most recent critically-acclaimed album, Nice and Naughty (2013, Stomp Off Records).  She has played such venues as Iridium Jazz Club, Lincoln Center's Rose Hall, The Montreal Jazz Festival, Night Town (Cleveland), and The Arizona Music Festival.  She has shared stages with Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks, the late Les Paul (at New York's Iridium Jazz Club), The Woody Allen Band at The Carlyle Hotel, as well as leading and headlining her own orchestra, The New Yorkers.

HOLLYWOOD HOLIDAY marks the TRIAD/STAGE 72 debut of both Barbara Rosene and Gregory Moore.  Make this the start of an annual holiday tradition!  Come spend a cozy evening with two fine singers (as well as fine friends) who want to share their joy in the great Christmas music of Hollywood!
