THE GATHERING Leimert Park: Roots and Branches of LA Jazz
Inspired by Leimert Park, Horace Tapscott and The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, as well as the vibrant cultural center over on Western and 48th in the 1970s, The Gathering is a growing project created to bring together musicians rooted in the rich history of the Los Angeles community arts movements, as well as like-minded progressive musicians from across musical, geographic, and cultural borders. This concert is in celebration of the release of the new CD Leimert Park Roots and Branches of Los Angeles Jazz. Led by Jesse Sharps, this amazing line up will be featuring music from the CD as well as many new pieces, including some based on the Intervallistic Concept by Eddie Harris. **** Dwight Trible will be a guest on voice with Jesse Sharps reeds/bandleader Phil Ranelin Trombone Michael Session alto saxophone Kamasi Washington tenor saxophone Thomas Stones flute, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson viola, Roberto Miranda bass, Nick Rosen bass, Brandon Coleman piano, Kharon Harrison drums, J.J.
