Bemidji Symphony Orchestra presents "Nordic Celebrations!"
The Bemidji Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Beverly Everett, opens its 75th anniversary year with "Nordic Celebrations" on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 3:00 pm at the Bemidji High School Auditorium.
Guest artist, Michael Hanson, will be featured on the Concerto for Saxophone by Lars-Erik Larsson. Michael Hanson is an award winning concert saxophonist, conductor, and teacher who has performed internationally in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Russia, Switzerland, and throughout the United States and Canada. He has played with popular music artists such as Michael Crawford (The Phantom of the Opera), Michael Bolton, Crystal Gayle, and Linda Eder.
The program opens with Fanfare by Stuart Dorsey, a piece written for the BSO to celebrate its 75th anniversary. Longtime BSO musician and former conductor, Dr. Thomas Swanson, will then be welcomed to the podium to conduct the beautiful symphonic poem Finlandia by Sibelius. Symphony No. 2 by Jean Sibelius rounds out the program. Join Dr. Everett immediately after the concert for a post-concert conversation.
