Harvey
Groton Regional Theatre (GRT) proudly presents HARVEY by Mary Chase, the delightful 1940s classic about Elwood P. Dowd, an amiable middle-aged man whose favorite pastime is drinking in bars with his best friend. This sounds perfectly normal until one considers that his best friend is a six-plus-foot-tall invisible rabbit named Harvey. Harvey, Elwood explains, is a "pooka," a benign but mischievous creature from Celtic mythology who chooses very carefully those whom he will befriend.
Elwood's sister Veta Louise and niece Myrtle Mae are naturally convinced that Elwood is off his proverbial rocker. They conspire to have him committed to the local sanatorium so they can carry on with their social-climbing activities without the embarrassment Elwood invariably causes when he blithely introduces Harvey to their upper-crust acquaintances. In a series of comic misunderstandings, Veta is the one who ends up committed, while Elwood wins the admiration of the staff at the "home"--and perhaps convinces others that Harvey is much more than a figment of his fertile imagination!
The GRT production is directed by Vic Panciera and features Andrew Kirby as Elwood P. Dowd; Suzanne McCormack as Veta Louise Simmons; Katherine Maher as Myrtle Mae; Dorian Mendez as Ruth Keely, RN; Dillon Babcock as Wilson; Zachary Scovish as Dr. Lyman Sanderson; Helen Cronin as Dr. Chumley; Callie Frisell as Betty Chumley; Kathy O'Hara as Mrs. Chauvenet; and Andrew Plasse as Judge Gaffney.
Performances will be on October 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 26, and 27. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8:00 pm; Sunday shows are 2:00 matinees. Performances will be at the Groton Senior Center, 102 Newtown Road (Route 117) in Groton, CT.
