Description
This Fall, the Santa Cruz Community will be presented with a pivotal opportunity for healing and inspiration. Survivors Healing Center invites you to attend an extraordinarily powerful event focused on the "Art of Healing". In the Art of Healing, survivors of childhood sexual abuse and their allies share, through the arts, aspects of their journey along the path of healing toward peace. The artists are both professional and amateur and a full spectrum of creativity will be shared. The Art of Healing is a testament to the strength, determination and dignity of survivors as they reach inward to heal that which is hurt inside and outward to what is hurt in the world.

To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of this remarkably empowering and profoundly moving event, Survivors Healing Center has expanded the reach and scale of the event, moved to one of Santa Cruzs most popular galleries and brought in some old family and invited new friends to help spread awareness and support healing. As part of the Art of Healing:

Thursday, November 6th, 7:00  9:30pm, join us for "Healing Words," a special gala evening benefit featuring poetry readings by Survivors Healing Center Co-Founder and nationally acclaimed Poet, Ellen Bass.  Also joining Ellen are poets Gary Young and Danusha Lameris. Music by Legal Jazz, a three-piece jazz ensemble led by Dana Scruggs, local attorney and advocate for survivors, will perform during the wine reception.  Emcee for the evening will be Bettina Aptheker, a professor of Feminist Studies at the University of California Santa Cruz and author of Intimate Politics: How I Grew Up Red, Fought for Free Speech and Became A Feminist Rebel.
