A Streetcar Named Desire in Sacramento
This is a tour of a Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams. Produced by 4 women, all independent artists and teaching artists, each of whom has been personally and artistically compelled by this haunting, sinful and delicious play.
Streetcar is an American classic, and perhaps one of the most riveting and tragic tales of modern drama. Streetcar is disturbing and violent, (but then good art seems to disturb) sexy and intelligent. The play's gloriously tragic heroes- Stanley, Blanche and Stella- are haunted by deep pains of the past and each driven by the heat of brutal desire. It's also incredibly funny- truly a masterpiece!
We are committed to partnering with women's shelters and organizations in each community we visit, using this play as a powerful tool to promote conversation and prompt action concerning issues of violence against women, mental health and victims of physical and sexual abuse. A portion of our proceeds will be donated to these organizations.
We will also offer workshops that are open to the community. These workshops, taught by members of the ensemble, are acting and movement classes that provide a safe and nurturing, joyful space that fosters self-esteem and encourages authentic self-expression- the freedom to celebrate the truth!
We'll be traveling to various communities throughout California, Nevada and Utah.
Featuring Adon Chau, Kenric Green, Kama Maccoli, Jeremy Minagro, Michelle Petro, and Melita Sagar and will be directed by Dana Martin.
