Above The Bamboo Room - Documentary Fundraiser & Variety Show
In life, we attach ourselves to a dream that just won't shake us. For many of us time and situation make us forget our aspirations and we sacrifice them for duty and family obligations. But what happens when you know that dream is the missing piece in your life and you try to figure out a way to have both: art and money to support your family.

The Bamboo Room Restaurant and Bar has been owned and run by the Tengs family for over 30 years. In its heyday it was a favorite stop for the likes of Charles Kuralt, but since the recession they have had to sell off their gold-rush relics just to cover payroll. Every night Christy would count the cash register while the Dr. Phil show played in the background. Inspired by his "just do it" attitude, Christy began writing songs based on Dr. Phil's advice. Her "Dr. Phil Project" takes her on an exhausting journey from Alaska to Nashville to Los Angeles and back again. An inspiring true story about chasing the dream as told by those that she serves every day.

Just take maybe ten seconds and think about an outlandish dream that you have had at one point in your life. Maybe you've got something knocking around in your brain right now. Something big. What would it take for you to realize this dream? What is stopping you? Money? Family? Too old? Too young? Not the right time? When is the right time? We have all found that it is easier for us to make excuses for why we can't do something, and not explore why we don't do it. If we don't put ourselves out on the line then we have nothing to lose, right?

Above the Bamboo Room will be a documentary film following Christy Tengs Fowler as she chases her dream of becoming Dr. Phil's personal songwriter.

However, she can't come to us. We have to go to her. We are all professional artists in different capacities and this is a passion project for all of us. But we need help offsetting travel costs.

So to celebrate the music of Christy (and to help raise money for the film to happen!), Above the Bamboo Room's crew will be hosting a promotional event and variety show on Thursday, September 5th.  Local artists, musicians, and performers will take the stage to perform songs from Christy's "Dr. Phil Project." It will be a night of great fun including a silent auction (auction items to be posted soon!)

The event will be filmed as part of the documentary process, so feel free to get gussied up if you like!
