Moms Mabley - HELLO DARLINS
Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute Presents: World Premiere HELLO DARLINS Moms got something to tell you! September 25th - October 27th, 2013
HELLO DARLINS honors comedian Jackie "Moms" Mabley. Billed as "The Funniest Woman in the World" Mabley was a pioneer in her field: a Black woman who pushed the boundaries of taste, politics, and race. Her career spanned from the 1920s on the Chitlin Circuit well into the 1970s, leaving behind a legacy of over 20 albums, and memorable appearances on many of the popular variety and talk shows of the day, including Ed Sullivan and The Smothers Brothers. Written by Seattle playwright Dan Owens, directed by Artistic Director Jacqueline Moscou and starring Josephine Howell as "Moms", HELLO DARLINS will take you on a journey fraught with challenging material, raucous humor, and surprises about who this woman was.
