CHILDREN OF THE SUN Israeli filmmaker Ran Tal grew up on a kibbutz in an atmosphere of Socialist and Utopian idealism, when kibbutznikim were living their dream. Using classic period footage, this film explores what life was like from the perspective of children. Largely separated from their parents, these children were reared from their earliest years in communal existence, isolated from the outside world, but joined together in an idealistic cause of a bygone era. My FATHER, MY LORD This sensitively-directed film depicts the staggering price that a family can pay for an obsession with ritualistic observance, even in the face of enormous tragedy. An ultra-Orthodox rabbi (played by Assi Dayan) is devoted to his wife and young son, loving them deeply. However, his rigid adherence to the minutiae of Jewish religious commandments makes him oblivious to their most basic emotional needs. As this film suggests, Abrahams binding of Isaac can have subtle parallels in todays world, often with unanticipated consequences.
