Jon Sands and The Breaking Ground Poets

JON SANDS is a poet, essayist, and author of The New Clean (2011, Write Bloody Publishing). He starred in the award winning web-series Verse: A Murder Mystery from Rattapallax Films. He is the co-founder of Poets in Unexpected Places, and his work has been featured in The New York Times, Rattle, The Millions, Word Riot, The Rattling Wall from PEN Center USA, and others. He's a member of the groundbreaking live literature tours, The SpillJoy Ensemble and The Whirlwind Company. He tours regularly, both nationally and internationally, and lives in Brooklyn. www.jonsands.com

Additional performances will be provided by The Breaking Ground Poets, the only teen performance poetry group in NEPA. The Breaking Ground is a tribe of young people united by their love of poetry. They are dedicated to self-expression, self-discovery, and bridging the gaps in the local writing community. This past year, the poets brought Write Bloody authors Lauren Zuniga, Jon Sands, and Andrea Gibson to Scranton. They have hosted 3 teen slams and host monthly open mics at The Tioga Bistro in Tunkhannock.

In August, the Breaking Ground Poets will be competing at Brave New Voices, the largest youth poetry festival in the world.

Additional performances will be provided by local musicians and comedians.
