The winner of multiple Tony and Olivier awards, CABARET is the story of extraordinary people in a nation under tension and anarchy, and how that chaos can explode into terrible consequences for all.
There are certain times and places in human history that ring down through the ages with echoes of lives lived with such intensity and explosive decadence that it affects the way we view the whole era. Berlin in 1931 is such a place at such a time, and American novelist Clifford Bradshaw has come to write about it. In short order, he becomes acquainted with a wonderfully sleazy cabaret, befriends a jocular, mysterious German named Ernst, and rents a room with an eccentric, joyous landlady. But then Clifford meets nightclub singer Sally Bowles, and fueled by sex, booze, and mania, he begins a descent into the dark heart of a nation both at war with and sowing the seeds of death.
