BLINK ENSEMBLE PRESENTS: "American Landscapes- An Evening of New Music by American Composers"
BLINK ENSEMBLE- comprised of Nelly Rocha on cello, Christopher Scanlon on trumpet, and Eunbi Kim on piano- presents diverse new chamber works by American composers- movements from the spunky and vaudeville-sounding "Jazzberries" by WILLIAM SCHMIDT, the meditative work "Quiet City" by AARON COPLAND, and the haunting and beautiful "Lyric Trio, for trumpet, cello, and piano" by CARSON COOMAN performed with special guest ACB DANCE COMPANY. Reception to immediately follow concert.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS-
EUNBI KIM, pianist, recently performed and produced a multimedia concert called "The Third Hand", a piano concert with moving images, at the Firehouse Space in Brooklyn, NY. She made her European orchestral debut with I Solisti di Perugia in Italy and has also performed solo programs in venues such as the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Eunbi has won prizes and participated in numerous piano competitions and festivals, including being a semi-finalist of The Washington Post Music and Dance Scholarship Competition and a recipient of the Distinguished Music Achievement Award by the Maryland State Music Teachers Association. Ms. Kim completed her Master's degree at Manhattan School of Music this past spring.
NELLY ROCHA has performed recitals at the International Conference on Women in Music in Beijing, China, the Encuentro Internacional Mujeres en el Arte at Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, the Universal Forum of Cultures and the Experiencing Villa-Lobos Festival. She has performed as a soloist with the North Valley Chamber Orchestra and the Guadalajara Youth Orchestra. She is a member of the Miami Symphony and has performed with Camerata New York, National Lyric Opera, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, with whom she recorded Mi Alma Mexicana, a cd released by Sony that celebrates Mexico's bicentennial. She performed in the national touring production of the 75th Anniversary of Porgy and Bess and the Verbier Festival Orchestra European tour. Nelly holds a Bachelor of Music,summa cum laude, from the University of Houston and a Master of Music degree from Arizona State University.
CHRISTOPHER SCANLON has performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles in Europe, Asia, Canada, Mexico and across the United States. Scanlon is currently a member of the Miami Symphony Orchestra, Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, and has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Boston Lyric Opera, Singapore Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Springfield Symphony, Vermont Symphony, New World Symphony,and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas. He has performed as a soloist with the Garden State Philharmonic, Spectrum Symphony of New York and recorded new music with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and the Callithumpian Consort. As a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center he was the recipient of the Roger Voisin Award and has also performed at Spoleto USA, Banff and the Verbier Festival in Switzerland. Scanlon is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Rice University, and Boston University.
