The Gangbusters Theatre Company, twice nominated by the L.A. Weekly Awards for its outstanding ensemble work, is back in Burbank for their second show of their seventh season. Departing from their usual practice of presenting 20th Century classics with their original speed and violence, the Gangbusters are delving into Shakespeare's most famous play. The director, who is new to the company, is maintaining a respectful faithfulness to the Bards text, while taking a startling approach to the material.
.......................
Director D.D. Thomas elaborates: the classic story of William Shakespeare's revenge tragedy, Hamlet, opens in a modern-day psych ward and quickly ventures into the head of our beloved title character.
.......................
Known for their dangerous and unpredictable style of work, the four-time-NAACP-nominated Gangbusters are the only independent theatre company in Los Angeles with a one-million dollar insurance policy. Come see why. There hasnt been a Hamlet like this to hit town in recent years.
....................... Gangbusters cast includes Christian Levatino, Rob Kahn, Rebecca Jordan, Trent Hopkins, Sierra Fisk, James Ryen, Mocean Melvin, McKinley Belcher, James Gilbert, Lance Shigematsu, Rachel Kerbs, Steven Gergely, Jonathan Burbridge, and D.D. Thomas. Producers: Leon Shanglebee and Nora Nin. Associate producers: Joann Socrates and Ian Kitz. Sound design: Adam Phalen. Costume design: Vandy Scoates. Lighting Design: Brandon Baruch
