I AM - Album Release Concert
Described as "elegant, beautiful, sophisticated, intense, and crystal clear in emotional intent," the music of Omar Thomas continues to move listeners everywhere it is performed. Omar Thomas is a jazz composer based in Boston, MA, where he is on faculty as Assistant Professor of Harmony at Berklee College of Music. A highly sought-after educator, arranger, and award-winning composer, Omar has created music extensively in the contemporary jazz and classical idiom in addition to having lectured both domestically and internationally. His music has been performed in concert halls across the United States. In 2008, Omar was awarded the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award. He is currently the leader of and composer for the Omar Thomas Large Ensemble, an 18-piece group comprised of the best and brightest of Bostonʼs jazz scene. In 2012, he was named the Boston Music Awards "Jazz Artist of the Year."
On January 15, The Omar Thomas Large Ensemble released its debut album, "I AM." The album immediately rose to the top of the iTunes jazz chart, peaking at #1 for several days. "I AM" also broke onto the Billboard charts, where it peaked at #13. The Omar Thomas Large Ensemble is proud to bring you the music of "I AM" with an encore performance of the acclaimed, relevant, and powerful work "We Will Know; An LGBT Civil Rights Piece In Four Movements."
