Introduction to Silk Painting -- Stephany Andrews
This is an introductory course on silk painting. Painting on silk is a wonderful way to create unique articles of clothing, beautiful wall hangings, and other enchanting pieces to enjoy. This ancient Asian artistic technique is surprisingly easy to learn. During this course, we'll see a demonstration of various silk-painting techniques, such as the use of salt and alcohol on the silk, painting on a dry cloth, and on a wet one.
Stephany will use a tube of 'gutta' to outline a picture on the silk - much like creating a coloring book page. Then she will apply the dye. The 'gutta' helps to 'color inside the lines.'
After the demonstration, each participant will create their own works of art--copying a picture onto a silk hoop, applying gutta, then painting their pictures to take home and treasure. You might discover that you would like to pursue this form of artistic expression.
Suggested Prerequisites, Materials or Texts for Participants, if any: Each participate will be provided with the necessary supplies to create their own original silk painting. The charge for the supplies is $15 per registrant.
