Dare to be Square--West

Secret Society Ballroom
Portland, OR

A weekend of Dance Callers' workshops, dancing, and jamming in Portland, Oregon. Our mission is to promote and preserve traditional Appalachian square dancing.

Featuring nationally acclaimed caller, Larry Edelman, along with our local favorite, Bill Martin.  Portland's own Foghorn Stringband and Seattle's Queen City Bulldogs will supply the tunes.

Learning to call squaredances requires experiencing them first hand, so, while there will be some discussions and teaching workshops, much of the daytime topics will look and feel just like a dance. We will have dedicated note takers observing the daytime events and we will provide you with a complete set of calls and descriptions for all the dances taught after the weekend is over.

Note: Ticket price includes admission to the public dances, two days of workshops and dancing, lunch during Friday and Saturday workshops, and the Saturday night participants' dinner.
