Reverend Billy & the Stop Shopping Choir Live At Victoria Theatre
The Church of Stop Shopping returns to the Victoria Theater. The 20 person troupe is known for combining direct action theatrics with gospel-shouting (for Earth not god) concert hall performance. The singing-activists from New York City have turned their anti-consumerism toward the Earth crisis, specifically the accelerating extinction of life by climate change. The Victoria "worship-show" will be the final night of the Revolt of the Golden Toad Tour, and we will collect our thoughts on the invasions of climate-killer JPMorgan Chase.
Recent campaigns that color the songs of the current concerts are Occupy Wall Street, the resistance to fracking and mountaintop removal and tar sands, and the run for mayor of New York City on the Green Party ticket. The company has won the Alpert Award, and the OBIE Award for "reviving activism."
Many of Stop Shoppers are former San Francisco residents, including Rev. Billy and Savitri D. Among the "Fabulous Saints" who have been canonized in previous SF worship-shows are Steven Raspa of Burning Man fame and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
