Patria Libre by Zoë Miller-Lee
Patria Libre tells the story of Maria Perez, widowed mother of three, who fought with the Sandinistas alongside her husband, Victor in Nicaragua. After his death, she fled to the United States with her three children and mother-in-law in response to threats against the family. Decades later in 2002, Maria struggles with her flashbacks of the war, as her children take their first steps out into the world.
