Public Radio's Grant Barrett Presents "A Lively Defense of Slang"
Bubbling up through the underbelly of English is slang! In this hour-long visual presentation and talk, public radio host Grant Barrett will explore language change in America with slang as his focus: why we're talking differently than we used to, how American English is developing, and why it's an exciting time to be investigating the innards of this fabulous tool -- English -- that we all use. The talk will be followed by a half-hour Q&A and crowd-led discussion that can sometimes lead down strange linguistic paths.

Join Ivy Plus alumni and friends for a fun, interactive evening with radio host, public speaker, lexicographer and journalist Grant Barrett (Columbia '02). Barrett is co-host and co-producer of A Way with Words, a nationally syndicated radio show headquartered and produced in San Diego. He's also the author of two books, and, as a lexicographer specializing in slang and new words, a contributor to dozens of dictionaries.

Ivy Plus community members will enjoy light gourmet supper fare from uberfood, a new San Diego-based food delivery service offering freshly-prepared organic and locally sourced meals for the home and office. uberfood was founded last summer by Steve Gal, a Cornell alum and Professor of Entrepreneurship at Cornell's Johnson School, and Gen Furukawa, a Brown alum and Cornell MBA grad.

"A Lively Defense of Slang" is hosted by Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP and co-sponsored by the Brown Club of San Diego, Columbia Alumni Association of San Diego, Harvard Club of San Diego, MIT Club of San Diego, and the Princeton Club of San Diego.
