Award-winning blues and soul singer Janiva Magness is touring in support of her newest album, "Stronger For it." She comes to Casper this month, presented by the Wyoming Blues and Jazz Society.
She was nominated for five 2013 Blues Music Awards including B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, Blues Album o the Year and Song of the Year for "I Won't Cry."
She won the 2009 Entertainer of the Year, only the second woman to do so, according to a release.
Magness was born in Detroit and listened to blues and country on her dad's record collection. She lost both parents to suicide when by the age 16 and bounced between foster homes, the release said. While underage, she sneaked into a Minneapolis club to see blues great Otis Rush, and she was inspired to start her blues career.
