BEIRUT
"Beirut" is the spiteful nickname given to a section of the the Lower East Side of New York where citizens who've been infected with an unnamed disease are tattooed and quarantined. Torch, a streety cougine, has tested positive and imprisoned in a festering and seemingly hopeless basement room. His strong willed and passionate-for-life girlfriend, Blue, a negative, sneaks past the quarantine barricades to be with him.
What unfolds is a painful struggle to love and maintain strength individually and together when their personal values are in direct opposition to one another. Questions are raised about an individual's right to choose the manner in which they live and die, the role of the government in its citizens' health and sexuality, and the purpose of a guilty past in deciding how to shape one's future.
Sexy, provocative, poetic, violent, passionate, and heart breaking-- BEIRUT is a must see for those desiring to be moved and changed by theatre and art.
