We Are Where We Eat
On Saturday, June 1, 2013 We Are Where We Eat will host a forum at the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria at 828 I Street from 10 am to 4 pm. Tickets are $25.
Our multi-level event features food demonstrations, talks and tastings with homegrown chefs, wine makers, local food purveyors, and historians; an opportunity to talk with local growers, food and wine organizations, authors, and culinary experts; and the StoryStation a place for you to share your story.

Craft-Beer Tasting with Sacramento Bee's Chris Macias
Exhibits by local historical societies, Rafael's Garden at Rudolph Steiner College, and tastes from some of Sacramento's best food and wine purveyors
Regional historians and scholars William Burg, Ken Albala, Robin Datel and Darrell Corti talk about Sacramento as a transportation and food hub, the story of our region's olive oil, and posit the question Does Sacramento have a regional cuisine?
TableTalk a chance for you to share your stories & discuss the future of food in the region.
Over the last year a team of journalists, geographers and historians chronicled Sacramento's home cooks, shopkeepers, agricultural leaders, food experts, growers, barkeeps and more. We discovered Sacramento is where the square milk bottle was invented to better fit the milkman's metal carrier. Caviar was one of our first "crops." Sacramento is built on hops fields that made the beer that was sold in our first saloons. The stories we tell about food reveal who we are, where we come from and what matters to us.
We still have stories to capture yours among them.
By June 1, 2013 we'll have hosted dozens of engaging community events in local libraries and historical societies.
Gathered more than 40 audio and video stories with regional food and wine growers, producers, distributors, cooks and eaters, twelve of them broadcast on Capital Public Radio. All archived at the Center for Sacramento History and SPL's Sacramento Room.
Developed a website with stories, recipes, and resources for how to uncover personal, family and community food history.
Produced a timeline and map that showcases Sacramento's diverse food and winescape.
What We Could Do With Your Support!
This summer we'll take an active role at Reading is so Delicious, Sacramento Public Library's summer reading program. In the fall we'll continue our mobile StoryStation, and start to develop short video documentaries in SPL's Green Studio, produce a food and wine anthology at I Street Press, make our website interactive, and We Are Where We Eat replicable in other communities.
