----------------------------------------------------------- About Friends of Mia:
Friends of Mia is a Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) Guild, with two very important goals:
1. Focus on making a difference in the lives of families going through treatment by providing meals, fun activities, and smiles.
2. Provide funding for childhood cancer research at SCH. ---------------------------------------------------------- Our mission is supported through generous donations from those who share our goal of helping kids fight cancer, local community fundraisers, and exciting events including the Friends of Mia Soccer Cup.
Cancer kills more children than AIDs, asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and congenital anomalies combined. Childhood cancer is different from adult cancers. 74% of childhood cancer survivors have chronic illnesses, and some 40% of childhood cancer survivors live with severe side effects, or die from secondary cancers due to intensive treatments. Despite these facts, childhood cancer research is vastly and consistently underfunded.
$5.00 from every registration will go to the Friends of Mia sunshine fund.
