From Papercutting to 3D filmmaking A Collaboration between Two Artists
A DC Independent Film Festival Workshop:
Artist Beatrice Coron and film director James Stewart take us on a journey from the papercut masterwork Daily Battles as it evolved into 3D space and is re-created as a 3D film. Put on your 3D glasses, an artwork has never been re-imagined like this. This workshop includes a screening of the animation BEATRICE CODON's DAILY BATTLES, an understanding of the 3D animation process and a hands-on paper-cutting session
Speakers: Artist Beatrice Coron: After briefly studying art at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Lyon, and Mandarin Chinese at the Université of Lyon III, Coron experienced life with a series of odd jobs. She has been, among others, a shepherdess, truck driver, factory worker, cleaning lady and a New York City tour guide. Coron has lived in France (her native country) , Egypt and Mexico for one year, each and China for two years. She moved to New York in 1985 where she reinvented herself as an artist.
Coron's oeuvre includes illustration, book arts, fine art and public art. She cuts her characteristic silhouette designs in paper and Tyvek. She also creates works in stone, glass, metal, rubber, stained glass and digital media. Her work has been purchased by major museum collections, such as the Metropolitan Museum, The Walker Art center and The Getty. Her public art can be seen in subways, airport and sports facilities among others.
Filmmaker James Stewart: Producer/Director James Stewart is one of a small group of directors worldwide to have worked in Digital 3D. He directed a groundbreaking live action Digital 3D film for a major automotive company, several of the world's first 3D commercials, as well as the world's first 3D Public Service Announcement. As a leading voice in the Digital 3D movement, James is sought-after speaker on the power, potential and commercial application of Digital 3Dspeaking most recently at the 3-Dimension Film Festival in France and at the 3D Entertainment Summit in Los Angeles.
