Core Acting Class

with Gabriel Grilli

This 7 week course focuses on getting back to the core of acting  through exercises and focused scene study, participants will concentrate on the tenets of acting including:



    * 'doing' rather than 'showing'
    * listening and responding truthfully
    * being 'in the moment'
    * creating a role
    * developing a physical character life
    * exploring what 'raising the stakes' means
    * proper breath, focus and relaxation
    * engaging your body
    * using improvisation as a tool
    * letting go of limiting habits



7 weeks, 1 class/week, 3 hour sessions  Cost: $280 General Public, $250 Theatre Bay Area Members / Students / Seniors

About Gabriel Grilli:

Gabriel comes to the Bay Area after 14 years in New York City as an actor, director, writer and teacher.  He has worked at theatres such as the Old Globe, Syracuse Stage, Geva Theatre, Texas Shakespeare Festival, Cider Mill Playhouse, NY Fringe Festival, ASCAP and HERE, and has taught at NYU, The New School, the School of Visual Arts, Penn State and Trinity Hall, Cambridge UK.  The former Artistic Director of Venus Fly Trap, his original multidisciplinary theatre pieces include Strange Desire, identity, Stalking Christopher Walken, and The Windows of Albert Camus. Gabriel has an MFA in Directing from Penn State University and a BFA in Acting from Hofstra University.  His approach to actor training incorporates acting and movement techniques gleaned from master teachers Manuel Duque and Mark Olsen.  He is a member of AEA and Lincoln Center Directors Lab.  www.gabrielgrilli.com.
