Hands in the Hive (Morning)
In this course, Hands in the Hive, we will cover in depth the following areas:
- hive equipment, - beekeeper's tools, - beekeeper safety, - hive handling, - honey, - extraction & bottling, and - pest management.
The practicum of this course will involve more direct work with active hives. If our bees have adequate stores in the hive, we will also demonstrate and/or practice the extraction of honey from a frame of honeycomb.
The goal of this workshop is to have every participant get their hands in the hive, to gain familiarity and comfort with the process. Bees are quite gentle creatures if respected and handled carefully.
NOTES: 1) Beekeeping 101 (BK101) is NOT prerequisite for this workshop. While the two are complementary, each can be taken independently of the other. 2) Beekeeping 102 morning and afternoon sections will not be identical, as much of the content is Q&A. Participants wishing to get more experience are encouraged to take both and can do so by registering for one and paying $10 at the class for the second.
Call Dorothy Rose, Registrar, with questions at 808-479-5515.
Thank you.
