| Description |
The Dinner of Our Discontent follows five estranged sisters as they return to the home they grew up in after their parents suddenly pass away. Their childhood emotions and resentments take center stage as they determine who gets what. And of course theres the maid, having lived in the house longer than any of the girls, having raised them and waited on them every day with no thanks, now faced with having to leave the only family she ever knew. The parents watch the madness from two picture frames on the back wall, their eyes following the action, tormented by their sudden separation and longing for their family to be whole again.
On giant lampshades, clotheslines, chains and picture frames, Aloft crafts an aerial show that veers from heartbreaking to hilarious at the drop of a plate. Not since the critically acclaimed Rolling Blackouts in 2005 have we undertaken the production of a new show. Partially inspired by our recent trip to China and exposure to the simplicity of Chinese acrobatics, which use household items to create masterful artworks, Aloft attempts to similarly employ the every day and mundane: ugly necklaces, a pile of clothes, a pair of boots, a ceramic plate, serving bells, and a huge dining room table all help tell this tale of self-obsession, greed and acceptance.
The Dinner of Our Discontent opens May 16th and runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until May 25th. Thats only 6 performances! Wed advise buying your ticket ASAP...$20.
