Cafe Lago Pellegrini Dining Society Dinners
" Society": 'companionship, friendly association with others'

Held the third Monday of each Month, "Pellegrini Dining Society" dinners for up to 18  people pay homage to the late Angelo Pellegrini, Italian immigrant, former University of Washington Shakespeare professor and author of the Unprejudiced Palate and other books on food and the good life. Pellegrini's writings achieved a cult following that included Henry Miller, Ruth Reichl, M F K Fisher, Paula Wolfert, Alice Waters, Faith Willinger, Robert Mondavi and many others. Locally, chefs and restaurant owners  Ron Zimmerman. Greg Atkinson, Jerry Traunfeld and Matt Dillon credit Angelo Pellegrini with having influenced their careers.

The Pellegrini Society Dinners, conceived by Jon Rowley, Seattle food marketer and James Beard honoree, were inspired by Angelo Pellegrini's writings and somewhat by the Algonquin Roundtable. "When I learned that Angelo and Virginia Pellegrini were Café Lago regulars and that Virginia had bequeathed Lago owner, Carla Leonardi. with bottles of Angelo's wine and an armload of his  books,  the Pellegrini Dining Society dinners wanted to happen", said Rowley. "I loved the idea", said Leonardi, "as a way to pay tribute to our esteemed former customer and to do what we can to keep Angelo's spirit alive. He was so much about bringing people to the table."

The Pellegrini Dining Society is not something you can join; it is merely people  who come to dinner at Café Lago the third Monday of each month to share stories. local wine, good conversation and a Pellegrini-inspired, simple but well-prepared six course  menu of local seasonal ingredients by Lago chef David Crutcher. Pellegrini had many interests and touched  many kinds of people. Anyone  interested in learning about and reviving interest in Angelo Pellegrini's works is welcome. Each dinner will have guests with personal Pellegrini stories.
