Night of the Magician
"Night of the Magician" is a live movie event directed by Jack Mayer that will play at the Chopin Theatre January 31st- February 24th.  

Thursdays through Saturdays show starts at 9PM! Sundays show starts at 3:30PM!

SCREEN DOOR is a collective of theatre and film enthusiasts who produce original Live Movies around Chicago. They are the recipients of the 2012 Edes Prize for Emerging Artists.  

Live Movies use a combination of video, theater, and music performance to deconstruct movies into their composite visual and aural parts--action sequences, close-ups, cuts between frames, musical score, voiceover, dialogue, sound effects, etc.--and then put the pieces together before the audience, live. The result is a fun, dynamic moviegoing experience that cannot be replicated on a small screen at home. It looks something like this.

Night of the Magician is the first show of SCREEN DOOR's inaugural season of Live Movies. Magician tells the story of Matilda, a young woman who arrives in a post-industrial factory town in search of her missing brother. As she wanders the streets looking for answers, she meets several of the town's odd residents -- and slowly discovers the terrible secrets that haunt them. A gothic horror tale about the relationship between the natural and manmade world, Night of the Magician continues SCREEN DOOR's commitment to telling original, genre-based stories in innovative, mixed-media formats.
