Femmebot: Gendering Technology
What if media actually reflected the people who comprise our world? The Establishment aims to answer that question. Run entirely by women and dedicated to providing a platform for marginalized voices, creators, and stories, The Est. is a multimedia news + culture site as diverse as the world we live in.
We're throwing an art show and panel--"Femmebot: Gendering Technology"--held at the StoreFrontLab, "a small space for big ideas, a vessel for dialogue and public engagement" in San Francisco.
Gird your loins for:
-Mallory Ortberg, founder of the beloved Toast! -Annalee Newitz + Charlie Jane Anders, authors and founders of io9 -Chelley Sherman, virtual designer, Gray Area Foundation for the Arts -Maggie Tokuda-Hall, writer, author -Kamala Puligandla, writer
All moderated by Sarah Hotchkiss | visual arts editor, KQED
Together we'll tackle the intersection of power, technology, communication, gender, sex, Silicon Valley, and everything else that makes the world go round.
Plus! Short films and a cash bar in a lovely alfresco atrium. EVERY TICKET INCLUDES ONE FREE DRINK!
PANEL STARTS PROMPTLY AT 8 PM
Come support independent feminist media and some of the brilliant minds behind it!
