Ta-Nehisi Coates with Elizabeth Hinton
Writers Bloc and Eso Won Books present Ta-Nehisi Coates

EACH TICKET INCLUDES A COPY OF WE WERE EIGHT YEARS IN POWER.

Ta-Nehisi Coates writes the story of what it means to be Black in America, as he reimagines American history, reports on politics, and writes some of the most powerful and emotional narrative in American letters today.  He won the National Book Award for Between the World and Me, a most magnificent letter to his young son, nonfiction with the lyricism of a novelist.  His comic books, the Black Panther series, are huge bestsellers. And his stories in The Atlantic covering the Obama years. one year at a time, are as much a personal story as they are about our cultural, political and social situation from 2008-2016.

We Were Eight Years In Power: An American Tragedy, is Ta-Nehisi Coates' response to the presidential election of 2016, and to its ramifications on American society. It is of course much more than about race-- it's about where we go from here as a nation.  We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy includes his interview with President Obama as the President was preparing to leave office. and Coates' take on the racial backlash that both precipitated and followed the 2016 election.

Elizabeth Hinton is an Assistant Professor at Harvard University, in the Department of History and the Department of African and African American Studies.  She is the author of From the War on Poverty to the War on Crime: The Making of Mass Incarceration in America. She has written for the New York Times; the  Los Angeles Times; the New York Review of Books, among many other publications.
