Protecting Legal Rights: Immigration Law in an Age of Uncertainty
Port Angeles, WA - Washington States Solicitor General, Noah Purcell, and the Executive Director of Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, Jorge Barón, will give a presentation titled, Protecting Legal Rights: Immigration Law in an Age of Uncertainty, on Friday, July 28th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at the Little Theater on the Port Angeles Campus of Peninsula College as a special fundraiser on behalf of Clallam-Jefferson Pro Bono Lawyers. Please come and help us celebrate, protect, and promote access to justice in our community.

Event speaker Noah Purcell received national attention in February for blocking the Trump administrations executive order on immigration. In his role as solicitor general of Washington State, Purcell successfully argued against the travel ban before three judges from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Before his work as solicitor general, he worked in the U.S. Department of Homeland Securitys Office of General Counsel, and he worked as a law clerk to former U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter.

Another leader in immigration law, Jorge Barón is the executive director of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP). NWIRP is a nonprofit that provides low-cost legal services to immigrants and refugees. Recently, the Department of Justice directed NWIRP to stop providing legal representation to immigrants in deportation proceedings. Since then, NWIRP has been fighting in court to ensure that these immigrants be allowed legal representation.

This event is a fundraiser to support the Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers, which provides legal assistance to low income residents of Clallam and Jefferson County. The Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers host drop-in clinics and offer one-on-one advice and consultations with volunteer attorneys in their Community Office.

Tickets will be sold at the door and in advance, with a requested donation of $20.00 per person, $10 for students. There will be a happy hour reception from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm for Bar members.
