Description
The Chicago Moving Company presents Dance Shelter a 2-week concert of modern dance works by veteran dancemaker (CMC Artistic Director) Nana Shineflug and  rising stars (CMC Artists in Residence):  Cindy Brandle Dance Company; Breakbone DanceCo.; and The Humans (Rachel Bunting).  Beauty.  A mudwoman. A viola-ist, a vocalist.  Feats of magic, of prowess. See all this and more at the beautiful, intimate Hamlin Park Fieldhouse Theater.

Nana Shineflug presents "Theater Piece" (inspired by a John Cage piece)-- a clever, surreal work featuring four veteran artists (dancer, writer, violist, vocalist)who together create a spontaneous (improvised) performance of wit and nerve. CBDC reprises "Revolution"--a section from their recent, sold-out "The Numb Project".  With original sound score by Chicago composer Barry Bennett, costumes by Jamie Breeck, this excerpt evokes a sense of coming together and the strength of community.  Breakbone Dance Co. presents "Stone Solo", excerpt from the upcoming, evening-length: "DE-evolution of Mudwoman"-- with choreography by Atalee Judy with Mindy Meyers and a set piece of 13 rocks.  Inspired, with permission, by Jan Erkert's "Turn Her White With Stones", (a 1999 solo based on the writings of female survivors from the Killing Fields of Cambodia), "Stone Solo" is not about Cambodia per se, or  torture, rather it is a raw and wonderful work about one woman's survival that strips themes of isolation, loss, and redemption down to their barest essence. Rachel Bunting/The Humans unveil a new duet skirting the eerie relationship/communication between twins . . . is there an unspoken, understood language between two who are one?  Featuring powerhouse dancers Bunting and Precious Jennings.

Notes
Annual concert--sold out last year!  Parking:  small lot on south-side of fieldhouse (off of Hoyne Street), otherwise--generally good street parking around the perimeter of Hamlin Park.  Also accessible by public transportation.  Damen or Belmont bus lines, Brown, Blue or Red line trains (with transfer); call the CTA for more info.
