Comics and Medicine 2017: Librarian Brownbag Session
June 17th, 12:30-2:00PM
Seattle Public Library, Downtown Location
Meeting Room 2 (4th floor)

Please join MK Czerwiec, Matthew Noe, and Ann Glusker for "Comics, Health, and Libraries: Bringing Graphic Medicine to Our Communities," a special session taking place during the 8th Annual Comics and Medicine Conference.

This multidisciplinary team will describe the use of comics in healthcare, otherwise known as Graphic Medicine. The interactive workshop will include a brief overview of the field's emergence, will highlight the role that comics can play in librarianship, and will share resources available to librarians through the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM). The workshop will conclude with suggestions for collection development and programming to kickstart Graphic Medicine in your library.

MK Czerwiec, RN, MA is a nurse who uses comics to help her contemplate the complexities of illness and caregiving. She is a Senior Fellow of the George Washington School of Nursing Center for Health Policy & Media Engagement and Artist-in-Residence at the Northwestern University Feinberg Medical School.

Matthew Noe, MSLS is a medical librarian interested in health literacy, access to information, and the partnerships between comics and library science. He is currently a Library Fellow at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the Graphic Medicine Specialist for the NNLM New England Region.

Ann Glusker is a Research & Data Coordinator at the National Network of Libraries of Medicines Pacific Northwest Region, based at the University of Washington.  She has been a public health epidemiologist and a librarian at The Seattle Public Library, writes a wellness blog, and has interests in health numeracy and data literacy.

Registration for this event is free, but required. Lunch option available until June 9th for a subsidized charge. You will be able to indicate dietary restrictions later in the registration process.
