THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM and MARTINIS AND MALICE
CURTAIN 5 TheatreGROUP and Fresno Soap Co. present THE ELEPHANT If you visited is profile recently, we had to postpone the opening of our plays one week. Venue power issues requiring repirs are underway. Our opening is now Friday,June 23 instead of June 16.
THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM, a drama by high school senior, Samantha Perez, is the the third original work selected in the 2015 Roosevelt School of the Arts Student Playwriting Competition, and MARTINIS AND MALICE, by Jerry Palladino, is a sophisticated light comedy look at the marital woes of the socially elites in the 1920's
THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM is a curious one-act drama in which Leo, a socially insecure college student, is given an old elephant artifact as a gift and told it will bring good luck to its owner. He quickly begins to experience positive changes and seems to think it may all be due to the elephant...or he is using the elephant as an excuse to mask his insecurity and be unwilling to accept any responsibility for the circumstances he has created for himself. This unwillingness causes him to lose his longtime, realistically-grounded girlfriend, Wendy, and puts further strain on the relationship he has with his father. All culminates with an intervention from an unlikely source, Leo's eccentric gypsy neighbor, Vimala, who gave him the elephant in the first place. Luck can have its downside too! THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM is directed by CURTAIN 5 Artistic Director, Jerry Palladino.
MARTINIS AND MALICE, written by Jerry Palladino and directed by R.S. Scott, is a parody of the titillating domestic comedies by renowned British director-writer-actor, Noel Coward. It's the 1920's, and we are eavesdropping on Vincent and Cynthia, high society sophisticates, sipping martinis at a posh cocktail lounge in the New York Plaza Hotel. Their measured chat turns into personal verbal attacks in a bizarre disagreement of sorts, and we are all casual witnesses. Why are the idle rich never satisfied with their status quo?
