Vermont Performance Lab presents Virago-Man Dem a new dance-theater work by Cynthia Oliver - a performance work that navigates the complexities of black masculinities through movement, spoken text and visual design. Virago-Man Dem is a nuanced study of masculinity in Afro-Caribbean and African American communities. The work is based on the lives of its performers: Duane Cyrus, Jonathan Gonzalez and Niall Noel Jones, and moves from their specific experiences to broader cultural experiences and is amplified by the visual designs and projections by Afro-futurist John Jennings.
Made possible with support from: National Endowment for the Arts
and VPL's Community Engagement Circle Supporters: Applewood Studios, Brattleboro Retreat, and Silver Forest.
