(Grand Rapids, MI) - Veteran performers, musicians and artists will gather to perform Jesus Christ Superstar at St. Cecilia's Musical Society on Friday April 14th, 2017 as a benefit for Girls Rock! Grand Rapids. GR!GR is run by a volunteer group of women who are dedicated to providing safe and empowering spaces for girls and women to learn, explore and create together.
Jesus Christ Superstar is a 1970 rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The album musical is a musical dramatization of the last week of the life of Jesus Christ, beginning with his entry into Jerusalem and ending with the Crucifixion. Emphasis is placed on the interpersonal relationships of the major characters, in particular, Jesus, Judas and Mary Magdalene, relationships that are not described in depth in the Gospels.
Girls Rock! Grand Rapids (GR!GR) is a week long summer camp that exists to empower girls and women through music. As a program of Grandville Avenue Arts & Humanities (GAAH), camp takes place each year at the Cook Arts Center, which is located at 644 Grandville Ave. SW, Grand Rapids. Each year, girls at camp get to participate in instrument lessons, workshops, band forming, song writing, and logo and album art creation. They also get to enjoy performances by other female musicians from around the Grand Rapids area.
