WHAT IS SLOW FOOD?
Slow Food is an idea, a way of living and a way of eating. It is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.
SLOW FOOD COLUMBIA is one of 200+ Slow Food USA chapters, located in Columbia, South Carolina. Our mission is to support the movement behind GOOD, CLEAN and FAIR foodways in the Midlands and beyond. Our convivium hosts workshops, potlucks and other events throughout the year to celebrate local + seasonal flavors; to showcase the culinary talents of our region's chefs, farmers, + artisan producers; to strengthen connections between members of our local food community; and to educate the public about the importance of knowing where your food comes from.
Our Vision Food is a common language and a universal right. Slow Food envisions a world in which all people can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it and good for the planet.
About Our Local Chapters Organized by volunteer leaders, local chapters carry out the Slow Food mission in their communities. Chapters, like Slow Food Columbia, offer educational events and activities to promote sustainability and biodiversity and connect farmers, cooks, educators, students and everyone else who cares about their food and the environment.
