Your Mother Dances presents: G O T / I T (Get Out of Town/In Transition)
Artistic Director, Elizabeth Johnson presents, "G O T / I T (Get Out of Town/In Transition)" a concert of three works, two by Johnson and one by friend and Guest Choreographer Gerald Casel. Both choreographers are directing their works from "afar," Casel from his new position as an Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of California-Long Beach and Johnson from her current locale as a Visiting Professor at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. The three works include Johnson's "2 Good 2 Last" and "Petty Things" and Casel's "Save the Robots!"

Originally premiered in 2010, Johnson's "2 Good 2 Last," shows four dancers in emblematic, tender, and supportive community. This dance is a dedication to her parentsa simple, playful, and wistful ode to Johnson's favorite childhood Harry Belafonte holiday songs.

Casel's "Save the Robots!" borrows its title from a 1980's after-hours club in the Lower East Side of NYC and is a response to the loss of artistic expression and integrity brought on by gentrification. Set on YMD dancers Sarah Bromann, Beth Engel, Annette Grefig, Steven LaFond, Jaimi Patterson, Kayla Schroepfer, Megan Zintek, and Maryhelen Wesner, this piece asks questions about how people are considered in the creation of urban spaces.

Finally, Johnson's irreverent, high-kicking "Petty Things" is a nod to the 70's and 80's hair tossing sass and optimism of her tween and adolescent years set to five iconic Tom Petty songs. Think Farrah Fawcett wall posters, Dukes of Hazzard (the original), and feel free to bring munchies for this one
