Opening NIght Tenth Season
The Metro Chamber Orchestra opens its Tenth Season with Artistic Director, Philip Nuzzo Leading the MCO in a program of music with a Spanish flair. Maurice Ravel's "Alborado del Grazioso" paints a vivid picture of the Spanish countryside in music as only Ravel could. Celebrating her sixth year as principal flute of the MCO, Jacquelyn Van Eck will perform Joaquin Rodrigo's "Concierto pastoral" for flute and orchestra. Written in 1978 for the great James Galway this tour de force is a show stopper full of requisite Spanish fire; a brilliant show piece. American composer Ofer Ben Amots conjures up the Sephardic traditions of Spain with his song cycle "Songs of the Pomegranate Garden" Sung in the Sephardic tongue, Ladino and sprinkled with Moorish percussion and harmony these songs evoke an atmosphere of times gone by. Mezzo Soprano Melissa Block returns to give this work its New York premiere. The program concludes with Mexican composer Arturo Marquez's Danzon no. 3 Join us for what will prove to be a most exciting opening night for our Tenth Season
