The PAX 10 Submission Form

Washington State Convention and Trade Center
Seattle, WA

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE PAX 10

The PAX 10 is a showcase of independent games to be exhibited at the Penny Arcade Expo. Taking submissions until May 7th, our group of 50 industry experts will cull the selection of games into what they collectively feel are the ten best in regard to gameplay and overall fun-factor.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU MAKE IT INTO THE PAX 10

A. Announcement on Penny Arcade as being selected for The PAX 10!
B. Announcement on the Penny Arcade Expo site as being selected for The PAX 10!
C. Four Exhibitor Hall Badges for PAX 2008, giving you access to everything exhibitors receive.
D. A kiosk in the PAX Exhibition Hall for you and your team to demo your game to tens and thousands of gamers, media and industry-folk. This kiosk will include a monitor and speakers however will not include any additional hardware for your demo to play on.
E. The chance to win The PAX 10 Audience Choice Award, to be announced on Penny Arcade following PAX.

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE PAX 10

A. You are an independent developer without a traditional publisher-developer relationship in place.
B. You cannot be funded by an outside party.
C. All games must be in at least beta form.
D. No mods or levels are allowed. What does this mean? It means you can't require the installation of other software to run your game. The only exception to this is if you submit a game that uses a 3rd party game engine (like Torque for instance) and you have all the rights to use the engine. In that same vein, middleware can be used for development, but the external software used has to be disclosed with the appropriate copyright and credits assigned.

SUBMITTING YOUR GAME FOR CONSIDERATION

In order to have our panel of judges consider your game to be in The PAX 10, you must do the following:

A. Upload a copy of your game to an accessible location (a secured FTP is preferred)
B. Submit the official entry form (the thing you are reading right now) including the server info to the location of the game (you'll be asked for it when you check out)
C. Submit the $50 submission fee via Credit Card at the end of this form.
D. Mail any special equipment or hardware to Penny Arcade, 12317 15th Ave NE, Suite 108, Seattle, WA 98125, noting the title of your game in the package. Keep in mind this stuff isn't getting returned.

Keep in mind for 2008 we are specifically looking for fun factor and a great gameplay experience. Yes, art, audio and stunning visuals can certainly affect the experience, but we arent dishing out individual awards for those categories. Our panel of game industry judges will be whittling the submissions down to the best ten, which will then be voted at PAX by attendees for the prestigious Audience Choice Award.

Those selected to be in The PAX 10 will be notified via email by July 15th, 2008.

Note: OFFICIAL RULES! By submitting your game for consideration as an individual or company, you must agree to the following rules and regulations. A. Keep in mind The PAX 10 was created for independent games, so if it is discovered you do not meet the requirements you will be automatically disqualified and we will totally be keeping your $50. B. What you submit as far as intellectual property and/or copyright must be owned by you or the company you are submitting for. By submitting the game you're not infringing on any other intellectual property owners. C. If you are submitting for a company, you must be authorized to do so. No going to the team come June and yelling surprise! D. You understand the decisions made by the judges are final. No whining. No complaining. No crying. No appeals. No calling in favors. E. You agree that its okay for PAX and PAX organizers to use screenshots, videos, your names, pictures and other assets from your submitted game for marketing purposes. F. You agree to hold PAX and PAX organizers harmless from any damages or expenses of any kind which arise or are somehow connected with PAX or The PAX 10. G. PAX and PAX organizers can cancel or revoke your submission or PAX 10 status at any time for any reason whatsoever. Although we are not cruel and unreasonable people, we have to say this so developer X doesn't go sue-crazy on us if we pull their game after they are caught beating up old ladies the week before PAX. H. If chosen to be in The PAX 10, you or a representative must be able to demo the game live at PAX 2008, August 29th-31st, in Seattle, WA during all open exhibition hours. Setup is on August 28th. Four complimentary exhibitor passes will be given to each game team, however flight and accommodations will not be provided.
